5x5 Tournament Rules

Basic Rules

  • Teams must supply matching jerseys with #'s. If you don't have a set MA Hockey League should have some to borrow. Please email to request them. $100 refundable deposit to borrow them. Will get deposit back once return all jerseys
  • Teams must supply own pucks for warm-ups and two to the ref for every game
  • Teams must fill out a roster with current players and #'s before each game
  • Games will be three 15 or 17 minute periods running time depending on what is indicated in the tournament info. The last 2 minutes of the game will be stopped time if the game score is within 2 goals. Each team gets one 30 second time out per game.
  • Games can end in a tie. 2 pts for a win and 1 point for a tie.

Penalties:

  • Three Penalties and you are ejected from the current game and the next game.
  • Fighting will not be tolerated. If you get in any type of fight or altercation you will be ejected from the tournament
  • If you yell or ague with the ref(s) in anyway they have the right to kick you out of the game. If you get kicked out you are done for the tournament

Play-offs:

  • Only players who have played in 1 out of the 3 play-in games are eligible. Players cannot play on multiple teams. No exceptions!
  • Playoff format will depend on the tournament and will be outlined in the tournament infomation
  • If a Play-off game ends in a tie then there will be a sudden death OT (time will depend on what tournament director sets and rink allows) which will usually be 5 or 10 minutes long. If still tied there will a 3 person shootout then if still tied will go round by round. Home team (higher seed) gets to choose who shoots first. Every player must shoot before the first player can shoot again.
  • Winning team will receive trophy & prizes as indicated in the flier

Tie-Breakers:

  • Points, Head-to-head, Goal Differential, Goals Against, Goals For, Least Amount of Penalty Minutes, Coin Flip. Unless otherwise notes this will be the format

 

For the purpose of ejections and suspensions, there are no refunds written, implied, or expressed!

Dedham 3x3 Tournament Rules

Additions and changes from above rules:

  • Games are 50 minutes long
  • All penalties result in a penalty shot
  • Each team gets one 30 second time out per game
  • Tie-Breakers after points: Head-to-head, GD, GA, GF, Least amount of Penalty mins, Coin Flip
  • Round Robin and Playin Games: At the end of regulation the game can end in a tie
  • Playoff games: At the end of regulation if the game is still tied there will be a 3 minute sudden death OT. If still tied at the end of OT then there will be a shootout. See the rule tab below for shootout info.

Somerville 3x3 & 4x4 Tournament Rules

Additions and changes from above rules:

  • Games are 22 minutes long or full 50 minute game depending on the tournament.
  • 3 minute warm-up for first game only. Rest of the games will start right away
  • All penalties result in a penalty shot. The clock will continue to run so line up fast. In the last minute of the game within two goals the clock will stop
  • Each team gets one 30 second time out per game
  • Slap shots are allowed but they need to be under control and no head hunting or penalties could result
  • Tie-Breakers: Points, Head-to-head, GD, GA, GF, Least amount of Penalty mins, Coin Flip
  • Round Robin and Playin Games: At the end of regulation the game can end in a tie
  • Playoff games: At the end of regulation if the game is still tied there will be a 3 minute sudden death OT. If still tied at the end of OT then there will be a shootout. See the rule tab below for shootout info.
  • Home Team gets to select which way they would like to shoot.
